Opening Day at the O'Hara Mill

Opening day at the O’Hara Mill Homestead May 27 was a day to remember with the ceremonies of the grand opening. The crowd came to this precious little gem in Hastings County to enjoy the music by Country Tradition, the march of the Grenadier Reenactors 49th Regiment of Foot Living History Unit with the guns firing on the hour, and the North Hastings Highlanders Pipers leading the troops, both instilled a sense of pride in everyone attending, celebrating our rich history. There was something for everyone to enjoy, from John Foreman’s hand hewing demonstration, building a birdhouse, sharing of herbs by the volunteer gardening gals, something to eat, refreshments, three new walking trails and guided tours of the homestead buildings. Then, last but not least, there was the the unveiling of the now historical plaque paying tribute to all that made the new covered saw millpond dam project possible. Admission is free other than a few special events and donations are always greatly appreciated. or 613-473-2084, Grounds open all year, 7 days a week, dawn to dusk.
